7 Things: Old Ideas for Current Situations

Life can be complex. The demand on our life, both personal and professional. At times the list of things, the tasks we need to accomplish, can force us into a feeling of overwhelm. A feeling of no matter how hard we try it’ll never get done. This feeling of helplessness can cause physical and emotional stress.

The research on the effects of stress on our bodies and mind is sobering. Therefore, developing tools, techniques, and habits counteract overwhelm and it’s resulting stress not only benefits us physically, but emotionally as well.

Full disclosure, it’s not easy. There’s no one thing for all people. However, this condition of overwhelm is as old as humanity. And as such there are many ideas and suggestions from the past and present that we can look to for guidance on our journey.

The following is a list of my favorite philosophical based methods to help people, and or leaders, deal with this feeling of overwhelm, overload, and the resulting stress.

There are no easy answers that will help reduce stress and overwhelm in your life. All of the seven strategies I’ve listed will take time, effort, and discipline. Not all of them will work for everybody, but given them a chance, most of them will work. Make them your own. That is to say, give them a shot, then adapt them to what resonates with and for you. Anything worth doing will require effort. You will try and you will fail, just as you will try and you will succeed. Just know that the effort you put forth will pay dividends.
